Blogging Basics Every New Blogger Should Learn

Hello, my friend and a very warm welcome back.

These blogging basics will make it easier to achieve your blogging goals quicker if you’re looking to create a blog or make money online.

So you can start on the right foot, what you need as a blogger as being outlined in this post.

Do you want to make a living from your blog and earn money? You probably do.

In reality, blogs are not started as hobbies anymore, but to make money online.

This is a fact. Blogging has turned into a profitable online business.

However, is it possible to become successful if you start a blog? Is blogging worth the effort?

The simple answer is yes, but you need to get the right mindset.

However, knowing whether or not it is worth it isn’t enough. Understanding the basics of blogging is even more important.

You can then expect to be successful.

In this post are some basic principles of blogging you should know before you even launch your blog.

Let’s get started.

Blogging-Basics-Foundations

1. Lay the Right Foundation

If you’re thinking of starting a blog, your first instinct is to use free blogging platforms like Blogger and WordPress.

This is unfortunately not the best solution.

Why is this?

It’s worth a look.

You would not want to open your business on a platform that is free.

It isn’t safe and doesn’t give the impression that you are in business.

But you want to give it the foundation it really needs.

If you really want your blog to be a business, then you must start by laying the right foundation.

What exactly does this mean?

To host your blog, you’ll need a domain and a hosting account.

If you do it in this manner, you will be the sole owner of your blog. Your blog is now in your own control.

You want to be in this type of control when you’re building a company.

A blog doesn’t need to be costly.

To find out how much it will cost to create a blog, you should read this post to the end.

HostGator allows you to get a web hosting account for as low as $2.75 per month and receive a domain name free for the first year.

This means that the annual expense for the service is just $33 per annum or $2.75/month. Isn’t it incredible?

You can get a domain name for free from many web hosting companies if you are just starting a blog.

Why would you want to start your own blog business using free blogging platforms, when you can get the right platform for just $33 per Year?

It doesn’t make sense.

If your goal is to start a blog for fun, it makes sense.

This is a hobby that you pursue for enjoyment and not for profit.

You aren’t trying to build a business. Blogging is a hobby for you.

If your blog is for entertainment, you can still use one of the many popular free blogging platforms.

However, if you are serious about blogging as a business, I wouldn’t recommend it.

2. Select a Good Theme

Your blog’s theme is not something you can easily change.

Your SEO and readership can be negatively affected if you change your theme often. It is also not professional to switch themes all the time.

What does it mean?

You should choose and use a professional-looking theme for a long time.

Decide which WordPress theme you want to use at the start of your blogging journey.

There are many advantages to selecting a high-quality theme.

A theme that is well-designed will help you increase your readership and also improve your SEO.

You can customize your site in any way you wish.

You can get high-quality WordPress themes for a fee.

Although it is not always possible, you can get the best items for free.

However, paying for a theme is a worthwhile investment.

There are a few free WordPress themes worth your attention, including Blocksy, Kadence, GeneratePress and Astra.

3. Select a Niche

There are many lucrative niches that you can choose to blog about.

However, it can be hard to find the right niche for your blog.

It is one of the most crucial aspects that will determine your success as an aspiring blogger.

Also, you shouldn’t choose random niches and try to blog about them all.

It is wiser to focus on a particular niche.

And you know what?

You will be more successful if you choose the right niche.

To make your first million dollars blogging, can take many years of hard work in the wrong niche.

You need to pick the right niche.

These are the key features that make a niche for blogging great:

  • Minimum competition
  • High-Profit Potential
  • Solves a Practical Need
  • Strong Market Demand
  • Professionally & personally satisfying

If your niche matches all these criteria, you have the potential to win.

Blogging-Basics-Monetization

4. Perfect Monetization

You can make money through your blog in many different ways.

Some methods may not be right for your blog.

Although thousands of bloggers have had success with display advertising on their blogs, thousands of other bloggers prefer to use affiliate marketing.

All of these money-making techniques can be used simultaneously.

However, it can be challenging to increase your blog’s income while simultaneously working on multiple strategies.

If your blog is popular, diversifying your revenue streams can be a smart move.

This can be a great idea.

It’s best to stick to one method if you’re just starting.

It will allow you to make more informed decisions about how your blog should proceed from the beginning.

For example, if you are looking to monetize a blog with display ads, you need to prioritize pageviews.

It’s important to get laser-targeted traffic, which converts into sales.

Making smart decisions will be easier if you understand how your blog is going to be monetized from the very beginning.

While you can always find other ways to make money through your blog, it’s best to stick to one method for beginners – understanding that your first $1000 online is hard work, but your next $1000 online is easy.

5. Concentrate on the Content

Blog posts or blog content are the foundation of your success.

It’s always a good idea if you have as many blog posts available as possible.

This should not compromise the quality and originality of your posts.

Either you write your own blog or you hire writers, your readers need to get what they want quickly.

The following are essential pieces of information to help you become a successful blogger:

  • You require high-quality content in high quantity. That’s correct.
  • It will be difficult for readers to return to your blog if they are not able to share high-quality content and make connections with you. As a consequence, your blog income will decline.
  • A lot more content can often mean more visitors through organic search. Some blogs have thousands of posts, so it’s easy to see why they are the most popular.

It is unlikely that you will be able to write thousands of blog posts in a single year.

To be honest, 20 blog posts per quarter won’t get you far.

From research, your blog should have between 200 and 300 posts (linked internally) before you can make a decent amount of money.

How many blog posts should you write?

Yes, it takes some time. In most cases, blogging requires patience. You can’t expect overnight success.

Blog-Basics-Writing

6. Learn How to Become a Better Writer

Writing is the main part of blogging.

It is the key to blogging success.

You can employ a few writers to help you with your blog.

But you must have a basic understanding of the basics of writing a blog post.

You can’t hire a great writer if you don’t have this knowledge.

Without understanding the writing process, it is difficult to judge whether a writer is a good one.

Try writing articles for your blog before you hire writers.

Trust me; it’s a long-term investment.

It’s true that you cannot be in business if your basic knowledge is not sufficient.

7. SEO is the Focus

You need to implement SEO best practices to build a successful blog.

Why should it matter? Simple; visitors are essential for your blog to succeed.

More traffic means more money. Traffic is the key to making money with your blog.

You can get traffic in two ways.

  • You can pay for traffic to your site (paid search).
  • Or you can create quality content that search engines love. Google will consistently send you more and more traffic.

For beginners, it can be hard to comprehend all possible SEO issues on your blog.

You can easily spot all these SEO mistakes by performing an SEO audit.

SEMrush is the best way to do this.

It will allow you to manage and control virtually every aspect of search engine optimization.

8. Get Quality Backlinks

Backlinks still hold the Number One ranking factor for where your website should be on search engine results pages (SERP).

I’m not referring here to spammy links that are posted on spam websites.

Those links don’t work.

There are better ways of creating links that matter.

However, there are certain elements that will make a backlink quality

  • A backlink from an established and trusted website
  • Links to relevant web pages
  • Linking to relevant anchor text
  • Backlinks that include text

There are many methods to gain quality backlinks to your website.

These are some of the best ways to get backlinks.

  • Blogger outreach
  • Guest blogging
  • Build strong relationships with other bloggers.
  • Build out outstanding content that people want to link to.
  • Do original research to find out what people would prefer to link to.
  • Create an infographic.
  • Write testimonials.
  • Link to external websites.
  • Leave comments on other blogs.
Blogging-Basics-Patience

9. Be Patient

Blogging can be time-consuming.

Patience is a key attribute to creating a blog that earns money.

Why? Blogs take time, just like other businesses.

In most cases, it takes more than 1 to 2 years for a website to generate decent traffic.

Let’s face it, the truth is:

A blog post that is high-quality may take you a while to write.

However, it won’t rank on the top search engines like Google in just a few hours.

It can take between 3 months and 3 years for a post to rank on search engines for related keywords.

You can’t expect instant success.

Many blog posts rank within a matter of hours or a week.

However, it is extremely rare.

You must be patient and continue to work on your blog.

10. Get Blogging Training

It is likely that you don’t have the knowledge or skills necessary to be a successful blogger when you first start out.

You can find many blogging courses online to help you get ahead.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on expensive blogging courses.

I’m aware that there are courses that cost hundreds of dollars.

It is not a good idea to spend money on learning how you can create a blog.

Many tutorials are available online to help you start a blog.

As a beginner, however, there are many things that you should know.

It doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars to get a good deal.

Udemy has a number of free blogging courses.

Its premium blogging courses are available for $10-$200 per year.

You can’t go wrong with spending $10-$100 to get into blogging.

There are hundreds of blogs where you can find lots of helpful information online.

You are currently reading a great example.

To be fair, it is difficult to tell you everything you need about blogging in one blog post.

Also, it’s not a good idea to spend endless hours trying to figure out how blogging works and how to make money blogging.

You require better information quickly and easily without having to wait hours.

It is why a course in blogging can be very helpful.

The most important difference between online articles about blogging and courses on blogging is how all the material is organized.

Conclusion

Research online can lead to random information.

A blogging course will give you all the information in a structured and logical way that makes sense.

It saves time and makes it easier to launch your blog quickly.
