How To Earn Money By Creating A Blog

Hello and welcome back to the second part of our training. To get the most benefit from this training, you should really read the first part which can be found HERE.

In this edition of How To Earn Money By Creating A Blog. We are going to continue with the advice you need to get started.

So without further ado,

let’s just dive in.

This article may contain affiliate links, this means I may receive a small commission if you purchase anything. It helps to keep me in coffee when I’m writing for you. The price you pay will not be affected.

We Are Now At The Stage Of Needing A Hosting Provider

A hosting provider is going to give the blog a piece of space on the internet. If it’s not self-hosted your link URL will look something like www.workonline.wordpress.com as opposed to it looking like www.workonline.com. The second link is definitely preferable, it looks a lot more professional for a start.

You can start a free self-hosted blog but, and it’s a pretty big but. When, it comes time to make money with your blog you will find it difficult to do, especially with sponsored post opportunities. These can earn you a huge amount of money as your blog audience grows.

If you are looking to monetize your site using ads or affiliate networks then you will have to have a hosting provider to be accepted. I recommend you do it the right way from the beginning, let’s face it that’s why you are here is it not?

Another reason you need hosting is so your content is secure, this means it gets backed up every day, then it cannot get lost. Not only does it get backed up but it also needs to have plenty of storage space. You are going to be writing 100’s of blog posts and they need to be stored somewhere.

The Speed of your website is also very important. When it has lots of visitors it needs to be able to cope without it crashing. These are all the services that the hosting provider you use will give to you.

The Hosting Provider I Personally Use

After using a few different providers at various prices I finally found one that had everything that was needed. This provider gave me tons of storage space, super fast speed for when my web pages are loading, this is especially important for the mobile speed because that is what Google is concentrating on to rank your content.

It also gives you a free keyword research tool to use for SEO purposes, a list of affiliate marketing opportunities to join, you can even buy a domain name from the platform, you get so much training that it can be very overwhelming in the beginning. You can even earn money in several ways from the platform.

The absolutely 2 best features in my humble opinion are the community of one and a half million members who will help you to succeed by answering all of your questions, you can even speak to multiple 6 figure bloggers on it. It is totally absolutely FREE to join, no credit card is needed.

You can take a look around, ask questions in the live chat, speak to me as I’m on it every day. Start a choice of two different training lessons and set up your very own website in just 30 seconds ( I kid you not) and it has been around for 15 years. One thing I forgot to mention is it has free support, they normally get back to you within 10 minutes of asking your question.

If you upgrade you can get free domain names, free credits to use on the platform, and up to 50 premium websites. It’s not like an MLM where you have to of purchased the level to get paid. You Can still earn money as a free member.

How to earn money by creating a blog

Content Creation

We are now at the exciting part, writing posts for your newly set up blog. However, before continuing, there are a few points we need to think about.

The posts should all be about the reader, not the writer, you can include things about yourself if they are relevant to the topic but you cannot be the focus.

A great post will always have a who, what, where, when, and why contained in them somewhere. This will help you to stand out from the crowd in the sea of 2 million other blog posts that are created every day.

Don’t be put off by that number, If I can master it at my age (53) then there is no reason why you can’t do it too.

The post needs to help the reader in some way. Make sure you have covered everything so the reader doesn’t need to go elsewhere to find the answers.

You will notice on a lot of successful blogs the sentences and paragraphs are short with lots of white space, this is intentional so the reader doesn’t get bored.

Think carefully about who is your target audience :

  • The make money online audience is going to be different from the parenting audience
  • A crafter making quilts is going to be different from a toolmaker

If you try to write for everyone, you could end up with little to no audience at all.

Different Ways To Monetize Your Blog

One of the greatest things about writing a blog is the choice of different income streams there are to choose from. The more you have the more potential earnings there are going to be. Don’t be scared about this process, most of it is passive. What does that mean? It means you set it up and forget it, Sound good to you?

Just a gentle reminder, it can take anywhere from a few months upwards to earn any money. It is not impossible to earn in the first month, I know people that have done so.

There are just so many ways to earn money, I could never cover them all. Here are just a small selection :

The first way is with advertising.

  1. Sponsored Posts
  2. Sponsored social content
  3. Giveaways
  4. Ad Networks (Adsence, Mediavine)

Services

  1. Training
  2. Coaching
  3. Designing
  4. Speaking

Physical Products

  1. Crafts
  2. Books
  3. Diaries/Planners

Virtual Products

  1. Apps
  2. E-Books
  3. Courses

Affiliate Programs

  1. Affiliate networks, Shareasale, Awin, Commission Junction
  2. Amazon Affiliates
  3. Private Affiliate Programs, Direct from the seller

From the list above you can see there are many ways to get started on the money trail, some require a lot of work while others don’t require any, set it and forget it. Let’s look at them in further detail.

How to earn money by creating a blog

Making money from sponsored posts

After you have written a few posts you can offer your services and write some sponsored posts. You will get paid by the number of words written, the amount can be based on how much traffic you have coming to your site, what amount of followers you have on social media platforms, or the type of niche you are in.

Be realistic with getting paid to do this, remember at this stage you are still a beginner. As you get more proficient you can get paid in the thousands for a sponsored post.

If this is of interest to you, you can find out more about sponsored posts from these sources.

Making Money From Display Advertising

The very first money to be earned can often come from Adsense (Google) Which is a set and forget option. You add the code to your website and that’s it, Just remember you get paid by the ads being clicked. In the beginning, you won’t have much traffic so you won’t get much revenue.

As your traffic increases so will the amount you get paid. Once, you have reached 50k sessions a month then I recommend you apply to Mediavine. You will notice a huge amount of difference in the amount you get paid. In fact, this method is how a very large amount of bloggers earn the majority of their income.

You don’t need to have hundreds of posts on your site, your earnings can go from less than $100 a month to literally thousands of $’s just by making this switch.

With the ads you can stop them at any time, you can also test, have ads on some posts and not on others. It’s your website you can do with it what you want.

Making Money From Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a wonderful way to earn money from listing other people’s products. You have no stock, no invoicing, and no posting and packaging. You have not got to the stage of selling your own products yet, so this is the next best thing.

To get started you need to join some Affiliate Networks

Here is a list of some of the bigger ones that sell thousands of products :

  1. Shareasale
  2. Commission Junction
  3. Flex Offers
How to earn money by creating a blog

Join Amazon Associates

With Amazon, you need to join the different country Amazon’s, for example, Amazon. Com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon. Es. join whichever ones appeal to you. You can get paid by people from those countries clicking through on one of your affiliate links contained in your content. You will be given a one link.

If they use a link on your page to go through to Amazon and the page leads to a product you are promoting but they don’t buy it, instead they navigate to another product and purchase that instead you still get paid a commission. Amazon works extremely well for many niches.

How To Get Eyeballs On Your Blog

Social media is by far the best way to achieve this and they are all free to join. Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter, Tik Tok. You don’t have to use all of them at once, in fact, I would strongly advise against doing that. Choose one at a time, when you have got the hang of it and have a few thousand followers then try out a different one.

The Main 2 I Use :

Facebook

With Facebook, you have a choice of using your personal profile or setting up a business page. Based on experience I would use a business page. The best advice I can give you here is to post consistently 2/3 times a day every day, there is a post scheduler you can use to help you with this. Join groups associated with your niche, like follow and comment on others posts to start getting exposure to your content.

You can also run ad campaigns, I would not recommend doing this when you are a beginner. Leave that until a later date.

How to earn money by creating a blog

Pinterest

Using Pinterest you can easily scale your traffic from zero to 5k in a few months. Traffic is the lifeblood of your blog No traffic No Money. Here I’m going to share with you a few of the steps on how to increase your traffic to become successful.

  • Firstly you will need a Pinterest Business Account.
  • Next, you need to create pins for each of your blog posts. Alternatively, if you are not very creative you can share any of the images contained within the post or even the featured image if you have one.

Pinterest is a unique search engine in that everything is visual, that’s why you need to make your pins stand out. The more your pins stand out the more chance you have of them being saved, shared, and repinned. The more you create pins the better you will become at it.

Canva

Canva is where I make my pins, it is free to use and it gives you lots of free images and free templates, as well as vectors so you can create your very own brand.

There is a paid version of Canva and when you get a bit more experienced with it, I would recommend you to get it. This will save you money on buying stock photos and also a lot of time. With the Pro version, you will get thousands of pictures, videos, and vectors. There are also templates you can use to make things for your other social media platforms.

  • The next step will be to create some boards to save your pins to. A very popular board would contain your best blogs.
  • Create 10 boards covering your blogging subjects. I write about several topics and there is a board for each one.

Once created save your pins to the appropriate board. To fill out the board a bit, save other people’s pins to your boards.

Look Out For Group Boards

You can tell group boards by looking at the pictures of the pinner on the left-hand side of the pin. A group board will have more than one photo displayed. Alternatively, you can be invited to a group board. You have to apply to pin to a group board and wait to be accepted.

The advantage of using group boards is that a big blogger or a power pinner may share your pin which will increase traffic to it. Make sure to return the favour by pinning one of their pins to your boards. Sharing is caring and at the end of the day, that’s what Pinterest is all about.

There are tons of boards on there, make sure you only join ones that are relevant to your niche.

  1. Pinterest is a search engine, so make sure to join keyworded boards.
  2. Join group boards.
  3. Do Not join boards with over 100 members, these usually flash by so fast that you will have trouble trying to repin, which makes it a pointless exercise.
  4. Be consistent and pin every day to your boards and to the group boards, this is by far the quickest way to grow your traffic.

If you are constrained by the time you can use Tailwind Here Is Access to A Free Month to schedule your pinning for you. You need to remember to write blog posts for your site as often as your schedule allows. In the beginning, the more you can do the better.

How Do You Find Topics To Write About

There are many places you can find out information for topics, a popular one is Google Alerts.

Here are a few more :

  1. Wikipedia
  2. Exploding Topics
  3. People Also Ask
  4. Quora
  5. Reddit

Find out what is trending and write about it, another place you can do this is on Pinterest, by going to the search bar. The purpose of this is to make your pins go viral.

Search-Engine-Optimization

Search Engine Optimization

I touched on this briefly above, SEO for short. This is something you really need to learn about from the very beginning if you wish to become a successful blogger.

If you join my hosting provider then you will be covered 100% for SEO included in the training. If, you decide to find alternative hosting then make sure to find time to learn all about search engine optimization. I have a few blogger friends and they all say this is something they deeply regret not learning from the start.

It is something you will have to pay for but it will be the most valuable purchase you make. Having your site optimized for the search engines will save you months and months of valuable time.

  1. It is easy to find a free web hosting nowadays but I think having a secure web hosting that can secure your information and looking professional is a must to be successful in affiliate marketing. The speed is also important, even I do not like a slow loading web page. Thanks for sharing the topics that I can create my comment and ways to monetize my site. I will check out the link to web hosting and will check out flex offer as well.

    • Hello Nuttanee,

Having a secure place for your blog to live is very important. The trouble with free hosting Is the lack of support when things go wrong and all of your hard work is lost.  Better not to take the risk.

You are so right free hosting is everywhere, but it is so not a good idea!
Speed kills websites faster than anything else!
I hope you are progressing well with your site.
      Have a great week.

  3. Great advice you’re providing on this blog post. As we’re learning how to create a profitable blog it is extremely important to follow the instructions you provided. Having a hosting platform for your website is extremely crucial if you want your business to grow and be known. Sure, cheaper hosting platforms exist but the value of Wealthy Affiliate and everything it provides could never compare to any other hosting platform.

  4. I agree with you wholeheartedly that Wealthy Affiliate has awesome hosting. I have been using them for over five years now and have moved all my websites over to their hosting now.

I think everyone should have a blog, and it is a great way to earn passive income over time. This is money that you would not be getting otherwise, so you have absolutely nothing to lose.

You have mentioned some great ways to monetize your blogs, but I find the most reliable income comes from placing ads on your sites. Products are also great, but I find that they fluctuate from month to month with the sales, whereas ads just pay out more and more as your site grows.

The other points you have made are very valid to.

  5. This is a great article full of really good information.  I came into affiliate marketing with no experience. Zip, zilch, nada.  Because of this, I encourage everyone who is in the same boat to heed your advice!  Content Is King but it won’t do anyone any good without a hosting provider and a knowledge of how to monetize it.

I found out, as you did, that it can be hard and time-consuming at first but so is everything else we have to learn.  Keep up the good work and keep posting more of this great content!
