Hello, my friend and a very warm welcome back. In this post, we are going to look at Why Content Marketing Works For One Person But Not For Another?
Before we can answer that question we need to know what content marketing is?
Broken down into simple words Content marketing is a clever marketing strategy that is used to attract, engage, and retain an audience by creating and sharing relevant articles on blogs, videos, podcasts, and other types of media. This approach establishes expertise, promotes brand awareness, and keeps your business at the top of peoples minds when it’s time to buy whatever it is you are selling.
Can you by the first line in the paragraph above understand why content marketing is important? ” it is used to attract, engage, and retain your audience”
As a marketer of any description those are the goals we are striving to achieve!
Why Do Some Content Creators Struggle For Sales?
You would have thought by me highlighting the sentence above that all content writers get sales and that I can understand However, that is not always the case!
The reason many fail in this is that they treat all visitors the same and that is something they definitely aren’t. Some visit your work for information only as they are on a fact-finding mission, while others visit with the express intention to make a purchase.
If you do a search on Google For Car Insurance you will get different types of results for example:
The top spot from the search is from AbbeyGate Insurance and looks like this.
As you can see there is hardly any text on the page but there is a big call to action button to click. (Get Quote)
Now let’s look at the second search result from Allianz Insurance. (it’s all in Spanish but what it says is not important)
This website is predominantly full of text, If you were looking for some car insurance you would be most likely 9 times out of 10 to get a quote from the number 1 search because it basically concentrates your mind to click the get quote button. The text in example 2 makes you make a phone call to get your answer.
Why Does 1 website do it one way and another website do it differently?
The top ad was paid for so it’s going to sit at the top of the search results and get the majority of the search traffic. The second result got to position 2 on page 1 because of ranking for text and hard-won keywords. In other words Content Marketing.
Unless you have strong calls to action within your content strategy then most people will just read, absorb, and not buy from you.
Does Content Marketing Work?
That is a big resounding yes it does work! I have been writing content for nearly 2 years now.
Content Marketing is a really great way to get traffic to your site it may not produce as many sales as paying out for ads but a lot of people don’t like ads.
An Example: Me, even before I was a blogger when I searched on Google for something I very rarely ever clicked on the top search if it was an ad. I always went to the 2nd,3rd, or 4th post and I still do.
In order for you to make money, you have to generate traffic/leads. And content marketing is what is going to get you to the top of the search results. The longer the post the higher it seems to perform.
I did a Google search for what is the average word count for page 1 position on Google and the result was 1,890 words.
Even if you write that amount of words every time it won’t guarantee the number 1 spot but it will get you closer to it.
How To Think About Content Marketing?
1. As a lead generation process, we need the traffic to our posts first and foremost.
2. To get the traffic, we need to write content that ranks in the search engines at the top of the page and that means it has to be valuable.
3. Or you can Hire A writer to write for you once you have given them a set of guidelines on how you want your posts to be written. Make this as comprehensive as possible.
Topic Ideas For Content Marketing?
The writing part starts with ideas for content. One of the best ways to find content to write about is to use a tool like Buzzsumo where you can search for your keywords or another one is Jaxxy They both have free searches available.
Using these tools you can find some popular topics to write about.
After your post is written and before you hit publish make sure to answer a set of questions every time:
- When the post is published would you show it to your friends to read and feel proud of it?
- Does your content have more substance and value to it than people you are in competition with?
- Your competition wrote a post a certain way have you used a unique concept or another interpretation of what was written previously?
- Will other people be happy to share your work on their blogs or social media channels.
- If you have answered in the affirmative you can now hit publish with a smile.
How To generate Traffic?
Unless you are paying for traffic it is a slow process. using SEO helps a bit but it doesn’t speed it up initially However, in the long term it helps massively!
Content Marketing now compared to 5 years is vastly different but only in one aspect, now there is much more competition and that makes it harder but not impossible.
The biggest process to generating traffic is infinite patience. That is something you really need to know! It can take upwards of 12 months to get to a significant amount.
Other things you can try are:
If you use Facebook try boosting one of your posts and target the high traffic countries like UK, USA, Australia, and Canada and see if you get any kind of engagement back.
Do you use Pinterest? Have you tried promoting a pin? that can give you amazing traffic.
Are you using Twitter? You can do a sponsored post on there for a short while.
Try a few dollars on each of these methods using the same post to see which returns the best results.
A free way to get traffic is by growing your email list. Each time you write some new content share it with your list you will be surprised at how much traffic that produces every month.
Try using infographics which also cost nothing but can bring a ton of visitors to your posts.
Now You Have The Traffic How Do You Convert It?
Have you set up a quiz yet? Quizzes are a well-known strategy to point people to products that you want to sell. You can set up a quiz using Interact.
Utilize a lead flow funnel to push the lead in the direction you want them to go in.
Mentioning your business in your content writing with links attached works wonders as long as the call to action is strong and strategically placed on each page.
Use exit pop-ups for more conversions.
Ensure you are attracting the right people in the first place is a brilliant way of converting them into sales.
Make sure your sales funnel is fully optimized.
Give your visitors a good user experience by making your site simple to use.
Show your users why you are different to your competition.
Is your site secure? if not people won’t trust it. My site is HTTPS which is a secure site. If yours is just HTTP that is not secure and you need to change it.
Ask your existing customers what content would be of benefit to them and then they will be more likely to convert upon delivery of the completed post.
Conclusion
Writing good Content marketing copy is much easier than getting traffic and sales!
I may have more success than you do because I’m not afraid to sell. Being a telemarketer for 8 years I’m very used to pushing people gently to the conclusion that I wish them to be at. This comes across strongly in my writing and calls to action.
We can all use the same tools and the same process but that doesn’t mean we will all succeed!
Make sure you ask for the order in your content with well-placed calls to action that stand out!.
