How To Become An Expert In Your Blog Niche

Hello and a warm welcome back to this Blog. Today we are going to cover the subject of How To Become An Expert In Your Blog Niche.

I can understand your confusion about being an expert in your blog niche when you first get going. Surely you should already be that before you start?

No. Blogging is also about learning new skills and new ways of doing things as well as writing about the things that you enjoy.

I’m a mum of 4 and a grandmother of 3, that doesn’t make me an expert in bringing up children it just means I know quite a lot about doing it.

You could be thinking that would have been a great niche for me and who knows in the future it still could be if I decide to branch out with a new blog.

This post may contain Affiliate Links This means if you make a purchase through one of the links that I may receive a commission. The price you pay will not be affected.

What Is A Niche And Why Must You Have One

A niche is a core topic that you are going to write about. It can either be quite broad or very narrow otherwise known as (niched down).

The biggest and most successful bloggers around all concentrate on one central theme.

Frugal Living! is a very successful niche to get into, look at these stats:

As you can see from the screenshot This account on Pinterest receives over 1.2 million monthly views. Frugal living is a narrow niche.

Lots of new bloggers can be forgiven for thinking that they have to write for everyone and I know I was guilty of thinking the same thing.

Building a specific audience is what you are aiming for. This type of audience is going to trust you quicker for one thing which is huge.

If you blog about all sorts of different things people will click on just one post that’s of interest then they won’t stay around to read more because the other posts aren’t of interest.

When you stick to specifics as I have with this blog then more visitors are going to stay longer and read more posts because they are all related to blogging and marketing.

I hope that makes sense to you?

Do I Need To Know Everything About My Niche

When you write honestly from the start that comes through to your readers so NO you do not need to know everything about your niche.

Everybody has to start from the beginning and sharing your journey with other new bloggers is going to be very helpful to them.

The aim of this blog is to get people started on a good path to starting a blog from the beginning. My experience of already having done that twice will help others.

You do research for blog posts in order to give people the correct information and in doing so you are also learning new skills.

If a visitor comes to your site looking for answers it’s because they are hoping to get the answer from your blog post as long as it helps the reader out then they will return and also share your posts.

I started mistakes, bloggers, make, knowing that I had a fair amount of experience in starting a blog but I’m definitely not an expert.

Do Not Compare Yourself To Others

If you start out comparing yourself to others then you will fail.

Trying to be perfect in the beginning is a recipe for disaster.

There will always be people who are better qualified than you are think back to when you were at school were you top of the class in every subject?

I know I wasn’t!

You can write in an easy-going manner on your blog as if you are having a conversation with a friend then that’s all you need to be able to do to convey your message.

You don’t have to be James Patterson to teach others how to be successful with writing a blog.

Another good example is you don’t need to be a qualified chef to be able to cook dinner for your family and to be able to write recipes for a blog.

The experts in your niche are the people you yourself should learn from as opposed to trying to be better than them.

Writing A-Pillar Post For The First Time

Pillar posts are a great thing to write to gain you a massive amount of knowledge on subjects you don’t feel you know enough about.

Through this process, you can share how you go about writing a pillar post that will be of great value.

A pillar post is a form of long content where you take the reader on a journey of discovery on a single blog topic.

As an example, you wish to write about the process you went through to get fit at the gym, you can share everything from the start to the finish of the journey in precise in-depth steps.

I have used pillar posts within this blog to record the steps on how to be a blogger.

As I have previously stated I’m not an expert just a blogger with some success and experience that can be shared to solve problems.

Talk To Experts In Your Field

One of the many reasons I love being a part of Wealthy Affiliate is for the super supportive community who all genuinely want you to succeed.

In WA there is a live chat feature where you can ask questions and bloggers at all stages offer you great and helpful advice to move forwards.

You have the ability to speak to bloggers and affiliate marketers who are making 6,7 and 8 figures a year.

What better way is there to learn other than from some of the best.

Not only that but you can also pick the brains out of the Joint CEO of the company who is around most days and answering questions.

The classrooms at WA are full of material for you to go through if you wish to learn more about your niche.

There is also live training on a Friday with the resident trainer Jay, he has been blogging for nearly 20 years and he is a font of knowledge.

I learn many things about blogging by signing up on email lists and newsletters to gain a better understanding of some processes.

Research

Research is a natural process that is taught to every new blogger. That can be keyword research, SEO research, or general research about facts for the post you are writing about.

The only really hard and fast rule about blogging is that the information you are providing needs to be factually correct and that is achieved by doing research.

People make their own decision after reading an article. 10 people can read it but they will not all form the same opinion that doesn’t mean anybody is right or wrong though.

As long as the information you have provided in your post is based on facts then your audience will respect it and continue to come back for more with the understanding that you don’t know everything and you don’t profess to.

Being transparent is a big builder of trust.

Practice, Practice, Practice

The best way to get better at writing for your niche is to practice you have taken courses and asked the experts now it’s time to take action and put what you have learned into practice.

Remember it is always better to write quality posts then it is to keep writing mediocre pieces but a lot of them.

Yes you do need to write and publish content consistently but ensure what you are putting out is answering the question the user is looking for.

There is absolutely nothing in this world that is perfect so don’t go for perfectionism.

Using all of the above tips will have you seeing traffic in no time.

The more research and practice you put in the more knowledgable you will become and soon you will be seen as an authority figure that people come back to again and again.

My Final Thoughts

Starting out on a blogging journey can be a daunting prospect but it doesn’t need to be there is so much advice available if you look for it.

When you visit other blogs look for a resources page to get help for what you need to run a blog.

You can learn to be an expert in any subject that you choose to pursue as long as you put in the work!

When thinking of a niche to write about just make sure you choose a subject that you will love to write about as you will be writing about it for many years.

Now it’s over to you!

How did you decide what your niche was going to be and did you find it a difficult process? I know I found it a tough decision to make.

Let me know in the comments the process you went through to choose your niche and don’t forget to pin me, please 🙂

  1. Hi Lisa, I loved this article bout getting started blogging.

My husband and I both blog and I frequently write for his site as well as my own.

Obviously, I love writing and this is a great way to exercise that passion and improve upon it.

When we first began just over a year ago we were only six months into our journey as the grandparents of a type 1 diabetic.

For me selecting a niche was a no-brainer, I just wrote about our family’s experiences learning our new normal. I mean I was researching the topic anyways so why not share with others right?

My site focuses on grandparenting a type 1 so not all articles are diabetes-specific although that is a big portion of everydays activities.

My husband focuses on the make money online niche as that is his passion.

Together we are loving life and anxiously awaiting world travel to open up again after this pandemic as we have so many goals we are anxious to begin accomplishing.

When we are ready to add another site to our business I will certainly reference your site and maybe we will see success faster following your advice.

Do you think adding a third niche site would be too much?

    • It is great that you have 2 websites running to teach others about your niche topics.

Having a second site will take a lot of time away from your first site, If you feel that you can give it the proper attention that it needs to get started then go for it!

  2. Hello, Lisa! Thank you very much for making this journey less intimidating! It’s good to know we don’t need to know everything about our niche. We should always research, though! Your post has encouraged me to write a-pillar post. I try to reach the goal of a four thousand words post!
